Sachin Tendulkar will become the first Indian sportsperson to be featured in Madame Tussauds when his wax statute will be unveiled at the museum on this April 2009. Before Sachin, the wax statutes of Indian filmstars like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan were installed at this famous tourist attraction of London. Apart form them, the statutes of former prime ministers Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and P V Narasimha Rao were also featured at Madame Tussauds Museum.
While confirming the news, a spokeswoman of Madame Tussauds said that highest run getter in Tests, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar will join other cricketing legends like Brian Lara and Shane Warne in the world famous wax museum. The new wax figure of Indian maestro will join the A-list line up of the museum. Talking to media, Madame Tussauds PR manager, Liz Edwards said that over the years the wax statutes of Indian actors were able to pull enormous amount of Asian guests and film fans from all over the world. Edwards added that the installation Sachin’s statue will bring in more visitors in the museum as the cricketer is not only popular in India but also has massive fan-following all over the globe. Sachin’s wax statue will be dressed in cricket whites in a typical celebratory pose which he does after scoring a century.
The statute will be given shape at Madame Tussauds studios in West London which will cost 150,000 pounds. Other sports legends in the museum include David Beckham, Mohammed Ali, Tiger Woods and Jesse Owens. It is estimated that 1 crore wil be spent for this sachin’s statue preparation.
